CSU is now ISO 9001: 2008 certified

The Catanduanes State University (CSU) main campus in Calatagan, Virac, and the CSU Panganiban Campus have been issued ISO 9001:2008 Certification by TUV Rheinland (Germany), making it the only academic institution in the province to secure ISO certification.

The two campuses achieved the feat after both hurdled the Stage 2 Certification audit conducted by TUV Rheinland Philippines Inc. last November 14-15, 2016 as well as the Stage 1 audit on September 7, 2016.

The main campus has its ISO Certificate Registration No. 01 100 1634746, while Panganiban campus has its ISO Certificate Registration No. 01 100 1634746/ 02, valid from January 27, 2017 until September 14, 2018. The scope includes provision of basic and higher educational services, including administrative, research and extension, support and ancillary services.

CSU president Dr. Minerva Morales said that the ISO certification of both CSU campuses is a legacy to the university and to the people of Catanduanes as well. Dr. Morales is its first university president in whose term the ISO endeavor gained ground, achieving for the institution an international benchmark. The certificate was issued after technical review and approval by System Certification Department, as revealed by Melody Ocana- Mokamad, Senior Manager, BS Systems of the TUV Rheinland Phils., Inc. 

The audit team, composed of team leader Ramoncito Puyat and members Ricky Inocencio and Jogina Mendiola, assessed both the CSU main and extension campuses as to their conformance with quality management systems. The audit was geared towards the university’s accord with international standards as provider of basic and higher education, including administrative, research, extension, support and ancillary services.

The audit looked into the following specific areas: top management, internal quality audit, educational design and planning process; planning, development and management information system, control of externally provided processes, product or services; educational delivery process, library and human resource services; guidance, counseling and testing process; administrative services, laboratory, admission and registration; research and development, extension services, and medical and dental services.

Prior to the ISO certificate issuance, the university went into in-depth preparations with ISO consultant Helen Evalle working hand-in-hand with the different teaching and non –teaching personnel of the university, led by Pres. Morales, Quality Management Representative (QMR) Prof. Ma. Theresa Sarmiento, and Deputy QMRs Dr. Lily Custodio, Dr. Aurora Araojo, Prof. Pedro Tumaque, lead auditor Prof. Esperanza San Juan, the deans and the faculty of the different colleges as well. 

The ISO 9001:2008 is focused on quality management system that is on par with international standards. It specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. It also aims to enhance customer satisfaction through effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
