A 22-year old student from San Miguel town was rendered unconscious while his two backriders sustained injuries when the motorcycle they were driving rammed a roadside tree in neighboring Bato last week.

The police said criminology student Bernie Mendoza, a resident of Solong, had no license to drive when the accident occurred at 6:30 A.M. of March 9 along the national road in Marinawa.

Mendoza was driving a Yamaha SZ motorcycle, with abaca strippers Dante Napili, 23, and Emil Briza, 26, as backriders, when the vehicle accidentally hit a talisoy tree at the right of the road. The trio fell on the concrete pavement and sustained injuries.

In San Andres town, a construction worker under the influence of liquor and driving a motorcycle made a sudden left turn along the national road at barangay Lictin the other Sunday (March 5), resulting in a collision with a tricycle.

Responding policemen arrested Jhonny Castro, 45, a resident of Lictin, who had no driver’s license and was not wearing a helmet while driving a Motorstar motorcycle when the incident occurred at 4 P.M.

The police said the tricycle was going to Yocti while the motorcycle was driving in the opposite direction when the latter suddenly turned left.

Tricycle driver Bernardo Zafe, 52, and passengers Eleson Tacorda, 77, Belen Sopranes, 52, Bebiana Solsona, 59, Helen Torcelino, 67, Marilyn Solaybar, 45, Ailyn Sopranes, 15, Rizalaine Sopranes, 11, Tricia Mae Tacorda, 11, Paulina Aira Tacorda, 7, Angel Mae Solaybar, 8, and Mark Angelo Solaybar, 6, all of Yocti, sustained minor injuries.

A day earlier in the same barangay, a black Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLX driven by Christopher Bonayon, 33, of Petersville Subdivision, Valencia, Virac, was traveling along the highway bound for Virac when it tried top overtake a Yamaha Vega motorcycle driven by Jhonabee Santelices, 26, of Timbaan, San Andres, at about 5:15 P.M. The SUV clipped the motorcycle, which then crashed to the pavement, causing injuries to its driver.
