15-man Cavite team to join Virac Open, U-13 chessfest

A team from Cavite province is set to join the Virac Open Invitational and Under-13 Age Category Summer Chess Championships set in the capital town of Virac this May 19-20, 2018.

Organizer Bony Molina said the Cavite delegation composed of 15 participants compose a large number of competitors from outside the island who will be challenging local chess players led by Faith Love Olalo, who recently won the bronze medal in the Batang Pinoy 2017 Games at Vigan, Ilocos Sur and has been the Palarong Pambansa representative of Bicol for three years now.

Organized by the Virac Chess Club and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), the tournament sponsored by the municipal government of Virac in cooperation with the Friends of Bony Gianan Molina offers the top prize of P5,000.00 plus a trophy to the Under-13 champion, with the 2nd and 3rd placers getting P3,000.00 and P2,000.00, respectively, plus their own trophies.

The 4th to 10th placers will be given cash prizes ranging from P1,500.00 to P500.00 as well as medals. In the Open category, the champion will get P10,000.00, the 2nd placer P7,000.00 and 2rd placer P4,000.00 as well as trophies. The 4th to 10th placers will be given cash prizes from P3,000.00 to P750.00 plus medals.

The 11th to 15th placers in both categories will earn a Eureka chess set each while the 16th to 20th ranked participants goes home with a T-shirt each.

The Seven-Round Swiss System Final competition will be held at Grandstand A of the Virac Athletic Complex, with Salvador Tardecilla as chief arbiter and Henry dela Rosa and Jonel Aznar as arbiters.

Registration fees for the tournament are as follows: Open Master – P300,00; Open Female/Male/Senior – P250.00; High School – P200.00; and, kiddies (Under-13) – P200.00.
