Personnel from the Gigmoto police station and the 2nd Police Mobile Force Company chased and foiled two lumber smugglers who used a topdown tricycle loaded with illegally-sawn lumber last week.

The team supervised by police chief Senior Inspector Voltaire Jun Pedido was conducting mobile patrol and monitoring illegal activities when they chanced upon two men on board a topdown Kawasaki Boxer 150 tricycle at barangay Biong at about 9:30 P.M. of June 17.

The two men, later identified as Michael Torillos, 36, and Deolito Tayam, sped towards the elementary school in an attempt to evade the lawmen but they were trapped. Tayam, however, managed to escape, leaving behind his companion as well as the vehicle and 13 pieces of assorted sizes of lumber.

A case for violation of Presidential Decree 705 has been filed by the Gigmoto police against the duo before the Provincial Prosecution Office.
