Three persons from Caramoran, including a 69-year old widow, are now facing a criminal case for violation of the law against illegal gambling after they were caught playing “tong-its” inside the widow’s house in barangay Guiamlong last week.

A case for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287 has been filed against abaca stripper Hereno Cortuna, 42, farmer Elmer Samudio, 52, and widow Iluminada Navata, 69, before the Municipal Circuit Trial Court in Pandan town.

Last June 17, 2018 at 2:30 P.M., joint elements of the Caramoran police and the Catanduanes CIDG field unit led by PO3 Dennis Olfindo and SPO1 Leo Templonuevo, respectively, arrested the trio while playing the card game. The police confiscated from them a set of playing cards and bet money amounting to P160.00.

A day later, the same team was joined by the 1st Catanduanes Police Mobile Force Company led by SPO1 Roel Evangelista in apprehending abaca stripper Leo Idusora, 19, a resident of sitio Bagong Baryo in Tubli.

The arrest, made in barangay Baybay, was made on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court for two counts of violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law. Bail recommended for his provisional liberty has been set at a total of P400,000.00.
