2 arrested over cyberlibel suits

Two persons from San Andres were apprehended by the police last week just a week after two separate criminal cases for violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 was filed against them before the Regional Trial Court.

First to fall was Karl Patrick Bien Surban, 26, a resident of barangay Salvacion, who was nabbed by a team composed of personnel from the San Andres MPS led by Senior Inspector Antonio Perez and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) provincial field unit headed by SPO1 Leo Templonuevo last June 19, 2018 at 7:15 P.M. at barangay Divino Rostro.

Make-up artist Elvis Garcia Tubice, 38, a resident of barangay Wagdas, was apprehended a day later in barangay San Roque, by the police officers of the San Andres MPS.

Both face similar charges for violation of Sec. 4 (C) (4) of Republic Act 10175 covering the commission of libel through the use of a computer system or similar means, with recommended bail of P48,000.00 each.
