Caretaker nabbed for stockpile of hot lumber

Authorities arrested a caretaker after finding a stockpile of undocumented sawn lumber inside a property in Panganiban town recently.

Personnel from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) led by SPO1 Leo Templonuevo, together with elements of the Panganiban police, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the 2nd Catanduanes Police Mobile Force Company proceeded to sitio Sto. Niño in barangay San Nicolas at 5 A.M. of July 22, 2018 to verify a report given by a CIDG informant regarding the lumber.

The team came upon a stockpile of sawn lumber in different dimensions: 170 pieces of lauan lumber with a volume of 1,116 board feet, 26 pieces of premium kalantas with a volume of 156 board feet, and 79 pieces of taluto softwood with a volume of 624 board feet.

Suspect Domingio Evangelista, 54, of San Antonio, Panganiban, failed to present documents to support the legality of the lumber  with a total market value of P103,650.00 that was found in his possession.

In Bato town, a tricycle driver and his passenger were apprehended after the police caught them in the act of unloading undocumented lumber from the vehicle.

The report stated that at about 12:30 A.M. of July 22 at barangay Tilis, SPO1 Roldan Almanza and PO2 John Paul San Juan were conducting intel monitoring along a road when they chanced upon driver Edgar Tanteo, 46, of San Juan, San Miguel town, and painter Ricky Tesorero, 41, of Tilis, unloading the lumber from the former’s tricycle.

The duo failed to present necessary documents to prove the legality of the 58 pieces of 2x2 taluto lumber, with a total of 232 board feet and market value of P9,280.00.
