Security guards at the Virac Town Center helped the police arrest a man who came back for a packet of dried marijuana that he accidentally dropped inside a comfort room last week.

According to PO3 Arnold Angelo Mendoza, he was on duty at the Virac police station at about 10:50 P.M. of July 26, 2018 when he was informed by a VTC guard that a dangerous drug had been recovered at the mall.

When the officer and SPO1 Willy Dulay arrived, the head guard, Shayne dela Peña, handed to them a big transparent plastic containing dried marijuana leaves that reportedly fell from the pocket of one of their customers. The customer, who was described as wearing a dark blue t-shirt, was no longer inside the VTC at the time.

The two policemen left to conduct a roving patrol for the possible arrest of the suspect but after several minutes, dela Peña called the police hotline to report that the suspect had returned to the comfort room.

PO3 Mendoza went back to the center at 11 P.M., with guards Roldan Tagle and Rudy Zapanta positively identifying the suspect.

The man wearing the dark blue t-shirt, Jose Sarmiento Villegas III, looked ready to run away but was cornered by the guards and arrested by PO3 Mendoza. Laboratory examination of the material in the recovered plastic confirmed that it was dried marijuana leaves with a total weight of 5.525 grams.

A criminal charge for possession of illegal drugs has been filed against Villegas before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.
