New tennis group seeks revival of sport here

The sport of tennis is expected to rebound in popularity in the island following the organization of the Catanduanes Tennie Federation (CTF) recently.

Sorsogon-based tennis enthusiast and DPWH district engineer Ignacio Odiaman has given full backing to the CTF after inducting its officers headed by its president, John Anthony Romero, at the Cusina Resort in Virac last Aug. 12, 2018.

The other federation officers are: Jayson Tabios, vice president; Rochelle Marie Molina, secretary; Fernando Camacho Jr., treasurer; Ma. Leizle Gonzales, auditor; Leslie Mae Gonzales, MMO; Jerome Obogne and Cyl Bryan Alberto, business managers; Abdon Rodulfo, property custodian; Lyndon Tablate and Edwin Romero, advisers; and, Atty. Sinforoso Sarmiento, legal adviser.

Also present during the induction rites was Division PESS Mary Jean Romero.

The same affair also served as the awarding ceremony for the 1st DE Ignacio Odiaman Tennis Tournament that was held Aug. 10-12 at the Catanduanes Athletic Complex tennis courts.

The winners are: Boys 12 years and under – Jon Andrew Ibones of Virac Pilot ES, champion, and John Warley Barba of San Vicente ES, runner-up;

Boys 18 years and under – Josh Kendrick Vargas of CNHS, champion, and Jhomanne Vargas (CNHS), runner-up;

Ladies Open – Dirma Frias of Commission on Audit, champion, and, Cianna Frederique Vilaflor of De la Salle College of St. Benilde,runner-up; and,

Open Category – Michael Acacio, champion, and, Irvin Abrasaldo of DENR, runner-up.
