A construction worker hanged himself from a tree branch in Virac just a day after allegedly stabbing a co-worker during a drinking spree in a project site in Viga town.

Chief Inspector Danilo Tenerife, officer-in-charge of the Virac police station, said the body of Ricky Araojo Tabian, 42, was discovered by his son John at 5:45 A.M. of Sept. 21, 2018 in their farm land in Antipolo del Sur while he was herding and grazing their carabao at a nearby pasture.

The man apparently hanged himself with the use of a nylon rope at the branch of a molave tree sometime between 12 midnight and 5 A.M.

Informed of the incident, barangay chairman Moises Clemente Jr. immediately informed the police, with responding investigators finding no sign of struggle in the area. The cadaver also did not have cuts or bruises.

A postmortem examination conducted by Dr. Elva Joson of the Municipal Health Office determined the cause of death as asphyxia secondary to strangulation by hanging.

His wife reportedly told the police that Tabian had stabbed someone in Viga and was possibly bothered by his conscience.

A report from the Viga police disclosed that Tabian was having a drinking spree with fellow construction worker Jose Araojo, 43, also a resident of Antipolo del Sur, at 10:30 P.M. of Sept. 19 at Sta. Rosa, Viga, at one of the extension school buildings of the Viga Rural Development High School when the stabbing occurred.

The two employees of Chrisman Construction and Supply based in Virac suddenly had a heated argument, with Tabian getting a welding rod and stabbing Araojo three times on the upper left arm and back that cause the rod to break and get stuck in the victim’s arm.

A co-worker, Alex Tablada, rushed the wounded Araojo to the Viga district hospital for emergency treatment before the victim was transferred to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center in Virac.

Tabian fled to his hometown on board a Suzuki motorcycle that had no plate number but the Virac police was not able to intercept the suspect.
