“Yu dalwang libong yan masarig na tabang nay an”

These were the happy words of Elizabeth Interior Delos Santos after she finally received her “Cash for Work” Incentive under the P50 Million Abaca Rehabilitation program of Department of Agriculture (DA).

Delos Santos, a resident of barangay Sagrada, Bagamanoc is one of the 442 total recipients of the CWI from the municipalities of Viga, Payo, Bagamanoc.

Of the recipients who received a total of over one million pesos, 269 abaca farmers came from Bagamanoc, 93 from Panganiban, while 80 are from Viga.

Provincial Agriculturist Nelia Teves expressed surprised that 100% of the targeted farmers from Bagamanoc and Panganiban were present in the awarding of cash incentives, compared to the past distribution activities.

The increase in recipients came after Governor Joseph Cua ordered the hiring of additional abaca technicians to help the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) in the implementation of the Abaca Rehabilitation Program.

“I am confident na matatapos yung rehabilitation within the year,” Teves said.

Last August 17, 2018, 393 abaca farmers also received cash for work incentives amounting to P941,600.00.

According to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), they have accomplished 47% of the total targeted recipients of the incentive amounting to P20,707,664.00.

Cua also responded to the allegations that the Provincial Government of Catanduanes is delaying the release of fund.

“Ang P50 million para sa saindong mga palahag-ot iyan. Bako ko iyan kaya ngani yatama ta ang pagluwas kan pondo tanganing tunay na parahag-ot ang makaresibe”, the local chief executive added.
