A resident of Bagamanoc accused of raping a mentally-impaired woman escaped harsher punishment after the Regional Trial Court approved a plea bargaining agreement with the complainant and the prosecution.

RTC Branch 42 Acting Presiding Judge Lelu P. Contreras sentenced Adolfo Molina Taroy to suffer a straight penalty of six years imprisonment and to pay the complainant P20,000.00 as civil liability.

The light sentence will enable Taroy to file for probation but he would have to pay first the full amount of P20,000.00.

It may be recalled that last June 8, 2018 in barangay Quezon, joint elements of the Bagamanoc police station and the Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Senior Inspector Jesse Allan Go collared Taroy, who was working as a driver in Antipolo City, before he returned to the ialand.

An alias warrant of arrest had been issued by the RTC in connection with Criminal Case No. 4676 for rape, with bail recommended at P200,000.00.

Information filed before the Court showed that the victim, who was suffering from Down’s Syndrome, was about to go to their neighbor to watch TV when she was called by the suspect. At the back of the barangay hall, she was molested and assaulted by the accused, with the rape interrupted only when her brother arrived.
