Despite practicing for only three weeks for its first time in the popular street dance competition, the contingent of the Agricultural and Rural Development for Catanduanes, Inc. (ARDCI) wowed the judges and the audience as it danced its way to the championship of the 2018 Padadyaw sa Tinampo last Oct. 25.

Showing no jitters on the capitol grounds, the ARDCI team erupted into tearful joy as they were announced as the winners of the 73rd Catanduanes Foundation Anniversary celebration and the P50,000.00 grand prize.

The First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FICELCO) finished 1st runner-up for ₱40,000.00 while the other two participating groups, the Provincial Capitol and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), rounded up the rest, getting P30,000.00 and ₱20,000.00, respectively.

ARDCI’s marketing assistant and dancer, Ma. Alliana Therese Panti, said they did not expect their victory since they practiced for only three weeks.

She added that their dance interpretation served as their edge, with their dancers screened and trained by Ping Faustino and Nida Marquez, with the company headed by CEO Victor Bernal providing its full support.

In an earlier interview, Provincial Tourism Officer Carmel Bonifacio-Garcia stated that this year’s Padadyaw was opened to the different government and private agencies to propagate the culture of Pantomina not only to DepEd teachers or students but to all Catandunganons.

“Mas gusto ta na mapabalangibog o mas dakol ang ma-reach out para ma-imbibe din ninda ang kultura ta in terms of Padadyaw, yung Catandungan style of Pantomina,” she said, describing the event as “a dance for all walks of life.”

The street dance and moving choreography started from Virac Plaza Rizal to the Capitol Grounds where the participating contingents held their dance exhibitions upon their arrival.

Spearheaded by DepEd-Catanduanes, the event was organized by the Provincial Government through the Provincial Tourism Office.

The Padadyaw sa Tinampo is the annual streetdance held during the Foundation Anniversary of Catanduanes wherein they dance the Pantomina, (Spanish term for Pantomime) in their own unique ways, as compared to the annual streetdance during the Abaca Festival during the month of May where it showcases the different festivals of the 11 municipalities.
