National, regional events swept with CSU student wins from CoEd, CIT

            As a sequel to past wins posted by Engineering students in the national quiz derby, students from the Colleges of Education,  and Industrial Technology, reaped honors as well in several competitions and bested contenders from other state universities and colleges.

            In a report, November 5, 2018, Dr. Jualim D. Vela, University Culture and Arts Director, bared that the Catanduanes State University (CSU) student-contestants lorded it over in the Regional Culture and Arts Festival sponsored by the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Bicol Chapter on November 9, 2018 at the Bicol University (BU) campus, Legazpi City.

            Vela, himself a coach for Visual Arts, together with fellow Music coaches from CSU, Prof. Cresencia G. Arcilla, and Mr. Jose Z. Tria, reported that the various arts and culture competition categories included among others, the Vocal Solo (Kundiman), On-the-Spot Poster Making, and Charcoal Drawing.

            Vela said that the following students swept the winning titles in the major categories during the regional event. They were: Godfrey Evasco of CIT (Champion), Charcoal Drawing; Isiahjim Torillos of CoEd (Champion), On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest; while Janelle de Leon of CoEd, bagged the Second Place in the Vocal Solo (Kundiman). Other student-participants from CoEd were: Immaculate Ann Gualberto, Joan Vallespin and John Donald Alfaro. 

            Oh the other hand, the College of Education students shared likewise their laurels during two regional and national events held earlier in Legazpi City and in Baguio City, respectively. 

            Dr. Maria Charlene A. Cantar, Dean of the College of Education, reported that in the 2nd Regional Pre-Service Teachers’ Competition held at Bicol University in Legazpi City, the CSU made it with Mr. Gener E. Alberto winning Second Place in the Micro Demo Teaching in English (Secondary); Joey H. Laurente, Second Place in the Micro Demo Teaching in Filipino (Elementary); and Lorraine Burce, Third Place in the Micro Demo Teaching in Mathematics (Elementary); while Mr. Ryan Anthony S. Bruce and Ms Shane Manlangit got the crowns respectively, as Mr. and Ms Pre-Service Teachers 2018-Bicolandia.

            Earlier, Mr. John Cyrus B. Francis, CoEd faculty and coach, also reported that the CSU during the 2018 Philippine Luzon Association of Campus Student Advisers and the Philippine Association of Campus Student Leaders (PACSL) held at Daraga, Albay, bested other SUC representatives in Bicol as the CSU through Mr. Ryan Anthony S. Bruce, a BSE English Major student of CoEd, won the Mr. PACSL 2018 title during the event. Bruce from CSU will represent Bicol in the Mr. PACSL International event slated on November 26-29, 2018 at Baguio City.
