Former governor and now congressman-aspirant, Engr. Hector S. Sanchez, aims to take actions on the pressing concerns of Catandunganons, banking on his expertise in technology innovations and a heart for those in the grassroots level.

Among those he deems necessary is providing alternative solution to the power crisis. Sanchez noted that a submarine power cable can connect the island to the Luzon Grid, as it is only separated by the 8-km gap across Maqueda channel.

This action, according to him, will provide another source of electricity to the province, and will automatically lower the price of electricity and can solve the issue of brownouts.

Presently, member-consumers of the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative pay more than 12 pesos per kilowatt-hour. Through the submarine cable initiative, the rate of electricity can be reduced to P7 to P9 kilowatt-hour.

It can be remembered that in his term as governor in 1998-2001, he had accomplished the rehabilitation of FICELCO electric transmission and distribution lines in the entire province. The rehabilitation made it possible for the upgrade of steel posts from the wooden ones and improvement of the distribution lines.

Sanchez disclosed that connecting the power of Catanduanes to the Luzon grid will be his priority project in his first term as congressman if he is duly elected by the people.

Sanchez also wants to improve mobile signals in the island, especially in areas where there is no cellphone signal reception. He also aims for faster internet signal, emphasizing its benefits for efficient transactions in local government units and businesses here.

“Bilang sarong engineer, kadakol ako napapatugdok asin napapagayon na ibang lugar, pero sa sadili kong lugar dai. Ngunyan, it is time to give back to Catanduanes,” Sanchez said.

“I want to serve my home province,” he added.

Furthermore, Sanchez plans to consolidate and adopt the Barangay Development Plans in charting priority projects for his administration. Through consultative governance, he believes that congressional efforts will be realigned to the immediate needs in the grassroots level of the province.

He also visualizes the construction of Congressional satellite offices to bring his administration’s services closer to the people.

Engr. Sanchez had been awarded as Outstanding Public Servant in 1999, Model Governor of the Philippines, A Filipino Millennium Achiever, and Outstanding Provincial Governor of the Philippines.

He is presently the President and CEO of S.C. Megaworld Construction and Development Corporation. SC Megaworld as triple “A” project contractor has a reputation in implementing huge projects.

Sanchez, a native of Caramoran is running for congress for the second time with Governor Joseph Cua and Vice Governor Shirley Abundo who is teaming with Cua for the first time.

“Dai akong ibang nahihiling na congressman na kasing buot asin matinuwang arog ki Cong. Hector Sanchez. Kung manggana si Manoy Hector, igwa na kamong bise gobernador asin gobernador na maboot asin matinuwang, igwa pa kamo nin congressman na mararanihan”, said Gov. Cua.

The Sanchez, Cua and Abundo trio would like to be referred to as “Team One”.
