San Andres police personnel ‘rescued’ two minors found hauling illegally-cut lumber last week in barangay Cabcab following a tip called in by a concerned citizen.

The two boys, aged 17 and 15 years old, were caught in the act of loading 38 pieces of sawn lumber of different sizes on board a Honda TMX 155 motorcycle with sidecar at around 8 A.M. of Jan. 14, 2019 at sitio Napo.

They were later turned over to the Women and Children Protection Desk while the lumber was placed in custody for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, a fisherman was arrested for transporting undocumented lumber on board a tricycle in barangay Mayngaway last Jan. 13 but the driver managed to escape.

PO2 Oscar Esquierda Jr. together with PO2 Aldrin Binalla of the San Andres police, with two personnel of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, caught Edgar Villegas, 52, of Mayngaway, and Rafael “Bolbot” Gianan, of Codon, in the act of transporting 20 pieces of sawn lumber on board a Honda TMX 155 motorcycle with sidecar at 2:50 A.M.

Gianan eluded arrest but Villegas, who ran towards the sea, was cornered by PO2 Esquierda. A case for violation of Sec. 77 of Presidential Decree 705 has been filed through inquest proceedings against Villegas before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
