A fisherman who failed to return home was later found submerged in a river in Viga town, an apparent victim of drowning, the Catanduanes police reported last week.

The report from the Viga police station identified the victim as Alvin Tabo Abichuela, 38, a resident of barangay Rizal.

Investigation showed that the victim went fishing on the river at around 3 A.M. of Jan. 15 but failed to come home. Four hours later, his brother-in-law, Edwin Osorio, came looking for Abichuela and found his lifeless body.

Barangay chairman Salvador Temporosa Jr. immediately informed the authorities of the incident, with the responding police personnel and barangay officials bringing the victim to the Viga district hospital. Dr. Richard Alexander Pareñas determined that the cause of death was cardiovascular arrest secondary to drowning.
