CSU-LS stude wins 18th CVS Ora Cup

A student of the Catanduanes State University (CSU) Laboratory Schools topped 14 other young orators to win the 18th staging of the Cesar V. Sarmiento Oratorical Cup last Friday, Jan. 25, 2019.

Zian Jesra Belaro Celso and her coach, Zyra Mae Tumala, received cash prizes and plaques of recognition along with the handsome champion’s trophy for the school from Cong. Sarmiento and Dr. Aida Dianela, chairman of the organizing committee, during the awarding ceremony at the CSU Auditorium.

Celso received the highest score from the board of judges composed of Sangguniang Panlalawigan secretary Atty. Gilbert Suarez, Rev. Fr. Paul Isorena, Pinoy Lingap-Damayan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PLDC) general manager Antonio Jimenez Jr., provincial tourism officer Carmel Bonifacio-Garcia, and Atty. Jorge Sarmiento.

Phil Donald Quiniano of Gigmoto Rural Development High School, with Sarah Mae Almasol as coach, was first runner-up while Donna Romano of Tubli National High School, with Lilibeth Vasol as coach, was second runner-up.

The prize for the best oratorical piece in the contest, which had as topic “Is The Government Doing Enough To Improve The Lives Of The Catandunganon Parahag-ot And His Family?,” went to the Catanduanes Colleges.

The other contestants, who won consolation cash prizes, were Erica Mae Valenzuela of Agban NHS (coach: Edwin Bañaga); Maria Chatlyn Baao of Bagamanoc RDHS (coach: Loraine Ann Santos); Gemmelle Ann Matienzo of CC High School Department (coach: Francia Butial); Jancis Rey Templonuevo of Catanduanes National High School (coach: Veronica Gurrobat); Renz Abraham of Christian Polytechnic Institute of Catanduanes (coach: Rochelle Ann Molina); Shekinah Denise Bonifacio of Immaculate Concepcion Seminary Academy (coach: Rico Romero); Nikki Tabuzo of Palta NHS (coach: Juvy Aracosta); Jonalyn Gonzales of Pandan School of Arts and Trades (coach: Charmaine Sanchez); Adriel Norbert Suan Jr. of San Andres Vocational School (coach: Fatima Carla Cajuday); and, Marelle Alexandra Bañas of San Miguel RDHS (coach: Martin Philip Alcantara).
