A case for violation of Republic Act 9165 has been filed against a former barangay chairman in Virac following his arrest last week in a buy-bust operation mounted by the Virac police station.

Benjamin Belaro Chavez, 63, a farmer from Sto. Niño, agreed to remain in custory of the police pending the termination of the preliminary investigation after the case was filed against him before the Provincial Prosecution Office.

The operation conducted by joint elements of the Virac PNP, Provincial Special Operation Team and the provincial intelligence branch led by Senior Inspector Ariel Buraga, officer-in-charge of the station, recovered one medium-sized, heat-sealed plastic sachet containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana, as well as the buy-bust money.

The seizure was witnessed by barangay officials led by chairman Felipe Tabor and other representatives.
