A Grade 6 pupil from the Virac Pilot Elementary School (VPES) broke a years-long drought in individual writing contests at the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) when he won first place in sports writing last week in the 2019 edition in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Justin Beaver Ramirez Cabrera made history in local campus journalism when he became the second qualifier from Catanduanes to bag the top rank in an individual writing contest in the NPSC in recent years.

The son of Benson Cabrera and Salve Ramirez of Lanao, Virac, his feat helped the Bicol region to land 4th place overall in the yearly gathering of young campus writers, the head of the Catanduanes delegation, Division Supervisor Gina Pantino, said.

Among the other qualifiers from the island for the national competition are: Don Mariano R. Marino of VPES (Photojournalism Filipino), coach – Rosita Bueno; Joefel Matthew G. Tugano of VPES (Copyreading and Headline Writing Filipino), coach – Francia Gimenez; and, Bianca P. Bohayo of Catanduanes National High School (Science and Health Writing English), coach – Ruel Fernandez.
