A seaborne patrol of police and fishery personnel apprehended a fisherman and a high school student who were caught in the act of using a banned fishing net within the waters of Pandan town last week.

Last Feb. 7, 2019 at 12:30 A.M., a team led by PO1 Danv er Oliveros, together with the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, PO2 Dan Bagay of the Provincial Special Operation Team and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) were navigating the sea off sitio Carbao in barangay Oga when they spotted two persons fishing in the area.

The duo – fisherman Rommel dela Vega, 33, and Pandan School of Arts & Trades (PSAT) student Michael Ibatuan, 18 – were caught in possession of a 500-meter long triple net and more or less four kilos of assorted fish.

Meanwhile, Feb. 5, 2019 was not a lucky day for an abaca stripper whose attempt to smuggle undocumented lumber went for naught.

Operatives of the Bato police led by PO1 Kristoffer Dan Garcia were conducting intel monitoring in barangay Marinawa at 7:30 P.M. when they chanced upon Merito Taroy, 55, of Binanuahan, in the act of transporting four pieces of “malinab” 2x2 lumber with a volume of 24 board feet.
