More than a hundred bikers joined the “Pedal sa Kapwa,” a fun ride across Virac last Saturday morning (Mar. 2, 2019) sponsored by Caritas Virac Justice and Peace, Inc. that served as kick-off activity for the 2019 Lenten celebration of the Diocese of Virac.

Held in collaboration with Chillax Bikers Club, the riders began their 6 A.M. ride at Plaza Rizal and pedaled through the scenic paved route through Pajo up Daguindingan road, coming out at Hawan Grande and heading towards Palta Big before turning right towards Sto. Domingo for the final leg that ended up at Risen Christ chapel.

Rev. Fr. Renato dela Rosa, executive director of Caritas Virac, said the event is founded on the social doctrines of the Church and the Scriptures that concretize the truths of “pagmamahal at pagmalasakit sa kapwa.”

“Ini maserbing pamukaw sa pag-abot kan panahon nin Cuaresma sa local na simbahan ning Virac kan concreting ekspresyon kan pagtubod sa Diyos sa paagi ning pagpamibi, pakipag-ulian sa Diyos asin kapwa, asin pagmangno asin pagtabang lalo na sa mga dukha asin nangangaipo,” he said.

The activity was participated in by bikers clubs and biking enthusiasts around the island, the Catanduanes police provincial office, DPWH, the Philippine Army, Virac MDRRMO, RHU, Virac MPS, traffic enforcers, Philippine Red Cross, DX4ARCC, motobikers club, barangay captains and tanods, religious and civic organizations and Caritas Virac staff.

A short catechesis on the spirituality of Alay Kapwa and its programs and works of mercy, development and works of justice concluded the ride at the Risen Christ chapel where Bishop Manolo delos Santos delivered a short message and blessed the participants.

Caritas Virac expressed its thanks to its sponsors: Amenia beach resort, Engr. Gil Balmadrid, Francis Camano, A. Teves Enterprises, Eden Belga, Engr. Gabz Samonte, John Laynes, Engr. Athan Velasco, Antares Commercial, all radio stations in Virac and its commentators, and the Tribune for their assistance.
