Panganiban police recover abandoned lumber

A member of a barangay intelligence network tipped off the Panganiban police last week about the a cache of undocumented sawn lumber in an isolated area along the Panganiban-Caramoran road.

The report said that upon receipt of the information last April 3 at 4 P.M., operatives of the local police were dispatched to sitio Sara-Saraan at Kilometer 17 in barangay San Miguel and confirmed the discovery.

An hour later, police officers led by P/Capt. Emsol Icawat recovered 16 pieces of 2x8x12 lumber, three pieces of 2x6x12 and three more of 2x4x12 lumber of Philippine Mahogany specie with a total volume of 316 board feet and valued at P11,850.

The lumber was hauled to the police station for documentation and turn over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Virac.

In Viga two days earlier, barangay officials in Ananong intercepted a motorcycle loaded with 12 pieces of undocumented lumber.

Chief tanod Eddie Antero and tanod Nelson Diones were on duty at 11 P.M. pf April 1, 2019 when they flagged down the motorcycle driven by one Suya Estrella, allegedly a resident of nearby Mabini.

The barangay officials unloaded the lumber of assorted sizes but as they finished the work, the suspect escaped by driving the motorcycle towards Mabini.

In Dororian, Gigmoto, on the same day, joint elements of the town police and the Catanduanes 2nd Police Mobile Force Company led by Cpl. Rhonnel Loria and Cpl. Jayson Perez arrested farmer Zaldy Avila, 36, for possession of 15 pieces of undocumented 2x2x12 lumber with a volume of 60 board feet and valued at P1,680.
