Special team formed to probe harassment vs. Sarmientos

The Catanduanes police has activated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look seriously into the suspected Election-Related Incident of harassment at the residence of the family of Congressman Cesar Sarmiento last week.

Chaired by Provincial Director Paul Abay, the team is composed of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team, Regional Intelligence Unit, Virac Municipal Police Station, Catanduanes 1st and 2nd Mobile Force Company, Crime Laboratory Office, PNP Legal Service and of concerned branches of the provincial police office such as the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch, Police Community Affairs and Development Branch, and Provincial Intelligence Branch.

The SIT shall provide strategic direction, monitoring and supervision of thorough investigation of aforesaid incident, Col. Abay stated in a press release.

Last May 4, 2019, five armed men carrying long firearms and wearing bonnets allegedly entered the compound owned by the family of former Gov. Severo Alcantara in barangay Ibong Sapa at 9:36 P.M., handcuffed the guards on duty as well as a bystander. They destroyed the lock on the receiving area and proceeded to the second floor rooms, opening three but failing to destroy the lock on the 4th room before escaping towards the poblacion on board a maroon SUV. At the time, the wife, daughter and grandson of Cong. Cesar Sarmiento were occupying the rooms, along with a Legazpi City businessman.
