Abaca-based products as well as local delicacies and non-food items are now on display and for sale at the Trade and Tourism Fair that kicked off the 2019 Abaca Festival last Monday, May 27, 2019.

To run until the festival’s last day on May 31, the fair at the provincial capitol grounds is sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in coordination with the Provincial Government and the Provincial Tourism Office.

Viewers and buyers attracted by the exhibits and goods on display at booths on the greenery in front of the capitol building are expected to add more color to the celebration, with most of the festival events occurring right in the same venue.

Selling hours are from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily, as Catandunganons take pride and participate in the 4th staging of Abaca Festival Trade and Tourism Fair.

For the last three days of the festival, a two-day Film Directing & Cinematography Workshop for local movie enthusiasts takes place today, May 29, at the SP Session Hall and Conference Room, along with a special recruitment activity for jobs in Manila and abroad.

One of the festival’s highlights, the Street Dancing Competition, reels off at 3 P.M. with participating contingents dancing their way from the capitol grounds to Plaza Rizal where the final judging will be held. At 6 P.M., Hari ng Abaca unfolds at the Catanduanes Convention Center.

On May 30, the Karakol Cooking & Table Setting Challenge will be held at the convention center for those who consider the mountain snail a tasty delicacy.

The second edition of Tramping takes place at Mt. Lantad in Guinobatan, Bato early the next morning, May 31, with local executives and tourism personnel undergoing an orientation on Local Cultural Development Planning at RHAJ Inn in Virac.

Following the closing of the trade and tourism fair, a Santacruzan from the Immaculate Conception Cathedral to the capitol grounds at 4 P.M. precedes the Fellowship Night at the same grounds.
