In a joint operation last week, several police units served a search warrant on a Pandan barangay captain and then arrested him after finding in possession of several guns and ammunition.

Armed with the warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Executive Judge Genie G. Gapas-Agbada, elements of the Pandan police station led by officer-in-charge Capt. Robert Kevin Caparroso, together with enforcers from the Regional Intelligence Division (RID), Catanduanes Police Intelligence Branch, and the Catanduanes 1st Police Mobile Force Company Sabloyon detachment, went to the home of Chairman Oriel Ibiernas Candelaria, 34, in barangay San Roque last June 7, 2019.

A search of his residence yielded three Cal. 45 pistols, six magazines and 39 pieces of live ammunition.

Cases for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition and COMELEC Resolution No. 10446 for violation of the election period gun ban are being prepared for filing by the Pandan police.

Meanwhile, Oplan Katok, or the Intensified Campaign on Loose Firearms (Oplan Katok), led to the surrender of one more Cal. 45 pistol and a steel magazine to the Virac police station last June 8, 2019.

The firearm was turned over by a professional doctor to Virac MPS for safe-keeping pending renewal of the firearm’s license.

The Catanduanes police has now recorded a total of eighty-two (82) firearms surrendered to different municipal police stations under the campaign.
