8 fall in police raids on “pusoy’, mahjong dens

Criminal cases for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 are set to be filed against eight persons, including four women, who were caught in the act of playing “pusoy” card game and mahjong in Baras and Virac.

In Genitligan, Baras, last June 12, 2019 at 3:40 P.M., operatives of the local police led by acting chief of police Capt. Michael Albania apprehended Rochel Torres, 40, Nancy delos Reyes, 32, Genilyn Villasana, 33, and Noli Tanael, 34, while in the act of playing cards. Confiscated during the operation were the playing cards and bet money amounting to P117.

Barely three days later in Calatagan Tibang, Virac, a team led by acting police chief Major Bon Billy Timuat came upon widow Elisa Magdaraog, 63, of Calatagan, sales agent Ernesto Tabirara, 46, of Calatagan, painter Santiago Vargas, 55, of Calatagan Tibang, and Robert Panti, 40, also of Calatagan Tibang, playing the Chinese tile game at 12:30 A.M. of June 15.

The team seized as evidence the set of mahjong tiles, two pieces of dice, the mahjong table and bet money amounting to P2,160.
