Two persons were killed in separate accidents three days apart in Bagamanoc and San Miguel towns last week, the Catanduanes Police Provincial Office reported.

Last June 11, 2019 at sitio Pusgo, barangay Quigaray ibn Bagamanoc, fishpond caretaker Eddie Dasal, 40, a resident of Bugao, was walking with co-workers Romeo Vitalicio and Jovenal Evangelista on their way to the pond to harvest shrimp when the mishap occurred at around 3 P.M.

According to the witnesses, Dasal unintentionally grabbed the live wire, causing his instantaneous death. He was rushed to the Bagamanoc Rural Health Unit but was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Annabel Pelagio.

The report did not clarify if the live wire was part of a perimeter fence around the fishpond. Owners are known to install electrified fences around their fishponds to deter thieves.

In San Miguel town three days later, an abaca stripper who was riding on a truck lost his life when the vehicle went out of control and toppled on its side.

The report said that the accident occurred at around 11:30 A.M. of June 14 along the national highway at barangay Paraiso while the Isuzu mini-dump truck driven by Wowie Bagadiong, 22, of sitio Tagbac in Progreso, was on its way from Progreso to the poblacion, with abaca stripper Alfredo Bagadiong Jr., 56, also from Tagbac, as the lone passenger.

Based on the driver’s account of the mishap, he noticed that the gear of the steering wheel had malfunctioned, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which then toppled on its left side. The victim fell into the pavement and was immediately brought to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.
