Caramoran MPS nabs 4 men for illegal fishing

Four persons were caught in the act of illegal fishing in two separate seaborne operations of the Caramoran municipal police stations during the past week.

Last Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 2:40 P.M., joint elements of local police under the supervision of officer-in-charge Capt. John Michael Miraflor and the Police Special Operations Team-Catanduanes Police Intelligence Branch headed by Cpl. Dan Bagay came upon three men engaged in illegal fishing along the sea waters of Suhoton area near sitio Palumbanes in barangay Toytoy.

Jonel San Juan Advincula, 27, Roque Bermejo Zuniega, 30, and Matar Bermejo Talion, 40, all residents of Dariao, were caught in possession of a bottle of improvised explosives locally known as "bigas-bigas", two plastic buoys, a pair of improvised diving fins, a swimming goggle, an empty styro box, four pieces of rolled nylon rope, fish net (silo), metal sinkers as well as the motorized banca, its engine and accessories.

Five days earlier on June 17, another team from the two units led by Master Sgt. Peter John delos Santos of the Caramoran police and the PSOT led by Cpl. Bagay apprehended Joel Barro San Jose, 54, of Dariao while in possession of a plastic bottle of cyanide locally known as "sosa", a spear gun, fish net, improvised googles, improvised diving fins, lead and stone sinkers, the wooden banca (sibid-sibid) and boat accessories.

Separate cases for violation of Section 92 of Republic Act 8550 as amended by RA 10654 or the Philippine Fisheries Code are being prepared for filing against the suspects.
