The Catanduanes State University (CSU) received on May 27, 2019 an award for scholarship under the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) for a staff member of its Public Relations and Media Communications Services (PRMCS) Office.

In a letter from Dr. Trever Crowe, Interim Dean, College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) granted the scholarship to John Edmund P. Manlangit, Administrative Asst. II of the CSU PRMCS Office.

CBIE confirmed Manlangit’s scholarship as a Visiting Experiential Learning Student at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada for the period January 1, 2020 until April 30, 2020 under the University’s Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.  He is bound to work on his research project, “Entrepreneurial and Financial Capabilities of Abaca Farmers in Catanduanes, Philippines.”

Earlier, Dr. Minerva I. Morales, CSU President, affirmed the CSU’s working tie-up with the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in a Memorandum of Understanding she signed June 5, 2018 with Dr. Anthony Vanelli, Provost and Vice-President Academic.

The agreement is consistent with the cordial and cooperative bilateral relationship between Canada and the Philippines and in order to foster additional academic and scholarly collaboration between the University of Saskatchewan (U of S), Canada, and the Catanduanes State University, Philippines.

The agreement, which runs for five years, highlighted opportunities to cooperate in various academic, research and scholarly endeavors in fields of mutual interest, such as: exchanges and internships for students, faculty, and staff; introduction of new curricula; joint research projects; exchange of publications and training materials; and, development of joint academic programming.
