An employee at a Virac mall was injured Tuesday last week when a service firearm of a security guard accidentally discharged while being turned over.

The police identified the victim as Darlyn Joy Galicia, 23, a resident of barangay Ibong Sapa, who was hit on her right leg and left ear by bullet fragments from a 9mm Armscor pistol.

Security guard Eduard Tojon of Binanuahan, Bato, was about to turn over the temporary issued firearm at 6:15 P.M. of July 2, 2019 when he accidentally fired it, with the bullet ricocheting off a concrete wall and two of its broken fragments hitting the victim.

Galicia was taken to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center while the guard was placed under custody of the Virac police for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, three more loose firearms were turned over for safekeeping to the police in three towns as part of the intensified Kontra Boga campaign.

In Panganiban, a 61-year old man voluntarily surrendered a Cal. 38 revolved with defaced serial number and without ammunition to the police last July 3, 2019.

Two days later in Bagamanoc, a former barangay chairman turned over a similar firearm to the police while in Bato town, a 41-year old businessman gave up a Cal. 22 revolver to the police.

The firearms will be turned over to the Catanduanes Police Firearms and Explosives Section.
