Three separate collisions over three days last week in Baras, Viga and Bagamanoc led to the hospitalization of five persons, the Catanduanes police reported.

The series of road mishaps began on Aug. 11, 2019 in Viga along the national road of Penafrancia while a Suzuki Raider 150 motorcycle driven by Cedric Jess Lopez, 23, of San Pedro, Panganiban, was on its way to the latter’s town at about 4:35 P.M..

A Kawasaki CT100 topdown tricycle with expired registration and driven by John Kenneth Balmaceda, 15, a Grade 9 student of Viga Rural Development High School and resident of Sta. Rosa, suddenly made a U-turn.

As a result, Lopez’s Suzuki hit the tricycle, causing the driver to fall to the pavement.

Balmaceda sustained minor injuries but his two passengers – Viga RDHS students Marcu Ogalesco and Ken Cabangon – emerged unharmed.

Responding police officers discovered that Lopez had no driver’s license while Balmaceda is too young to drive or be issued such a license.

Two days later, on Aug. 13, the Mitsubishi Strada driven by Benjamin Qua, 56, of West Garden Subd., Bigaa, Virac, was travelling to Gigmoto at 2:40 P.M. along the road ay Western Poblacion, Baras when it wandered into the opposite lane, causing a head-on collision with an oncoming motorcycle.

Raziel Tatel, 25, of Bagong Sirang, San Andres, sustained injuries on his left foot and was rushed to the Baras RHU before being transferred to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center for further medical attention when he complained of dizziness.

Four hours later, at 6:45 P.M., this time at sitio Maragkiw, Bacak, Bagamanoc, two motorcycles also collided head-on, injuring their drivers.

Sonny Vecina, an unemployed resident of Sagrada, Bagamanoc, was on board a Kawasaki Bajaj when it encroached on the other lane and rammed into another Kawasaki Bajaj driven by security field inspector Palmero Nino, 39, of Paracale, Camarines Norte.

Both drivers were hurt and had to be treated at Viga district hospital.
