The town of Gigmoto has become the latest beneficiary of the Little Free Library, the world’s largest book sharing movement, thanks to a Gigmoteña whose own experience studying in the local schools inspired her to initiate the donation.

Last Aug. 23, 2019, DepEd Catanduanes officials led by Schools Division Superintendent Socorro dela Rosa joined Mayor Vicente Tayam, Councilor Jake Tolledo, Principal Juan Geromo and GCES stakeholder Amy Panti Chantengco in the launching of the LFLA at Gigmoto Central Elementary School.

The benefactor, Babylyn Robles Domingo, was not present as she had to accompany her ailing husband on an ambulance bound for Manila.

In her short talk read by her representative, Mrs. Arlene Gianan, Domingo said the Little Free Library’s mission is to inspire a love of reading among kids, build the community and spark creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.

“I am extremely happy for having fulfilled this fondest dream of mine as a fitting contribution of my family to the educational needs of our students in our beloved town of Gigmoto,” Domingo enthused.

She recalled the difficulty she experienced during her time, the lack of simplest books and references practically in all subject areas.

It fired up my intense desire to put an end to those sad episodes when there were no books nor gadgets that could help is in doing our assignments, Ms. Domingo disclosed.
