LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) – Citizens can now alert the police in Bicol through a newly released set of official text hotline.

“With this new text hotline, the public can contact one number wherever they are in Bicol,” said Brig. Gen. Arnel B. Escobal Escobal, police regional director for Bicol.

Brig. Gen. Arnel B. Escobal, police regional director for Bicol, assures that messages sent to the 'Isumbong sa Kasurog' text hotline will be treated as confidential and will be given swift appropriate action.

Escobal encouraged citizens to report legitimate information about illegal activities, crime incidents, complaints and emergencies to the Philippine National Police by texting KASUROG (space) their message then send to 744-47765. Each message is charged P1 to avoid false reports or prank texts.

Dubbed “Isumbong sa Kasurog” hotline, the text hotline was set up by the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) in partnership with Smart Communications to support crime prevention and police assistance in the region.

According to Escobal, the text hotline is centralized in the 24/7 regional message center and connected to the provincial police officers who are ready to respond.

He assured that the messages will be given appropriate action and will be confidential especially for complaints and report of illegalities.

Escobal appealed to the public to refrain from sending prank texts, saying the service should be used “judiciously.” (Danica D. Caballero/PIA-5)
