4 illegal loggers nabbed in Tokio

Joint elements of the Pandan police station and the Catanduanes Criminal Investigation and Detection Team led by Master Sgt. Donald Caballero arrested four persons for engaging in illegal cutting of trees in barangay Tokio last week.

The police identified those collared last Sept. 24, 2019 as Ruben del Valle Fernandeze, 59, a farmer from Porot; Joel Avila Traquena, 53, an abaca stripper from Tokio; Leon Avila Evangelista, 54, an abaca stripper from Tokio,; and, Salvio Caballero Trinidad, 46, a resident of Wagdas.

They were caught in possession of 40 pieces of illegally sawn lumber of assorted sizes and with an estimated market value of P8,000 as well as Stihl chainsaw without serial number.

Cases for violation of Presidential Decree 705 (Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines) and Republic Act 9175 (Chainsaw Act of 2002) are being prepared for filing against them.
