A man apparently waited 25 years to avenge a slight, hacking to death another man in Virac before surrendered to the police authorities.

According to Talisoy barangay captain Recky Urbano, the suspect, Francis Aguilar, 58, gave himself up to the police after being pinpointed as the one responsible for the death of Lino Tomagan Gacer, 56, last Sunday morning.

The police learned of the incident from Nina Gacer, a relative of the victim, who went to the station at 7 A.M. of Sept. 29, 2019.

According to the initial investigation, one Amparo Teocson came upon Lino Gacer’s body lying on a drainage canal along the barangay road, with numerous hack wounds in the different parts of his body.

Relatives brought Gacer to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Graciela Guerrero.

Chairman Urbano told the Tribune that the suspect bore a longstanding grudge against the victim, who had reportedly stabbed Aguilar in the eye in 1994.

He said that Gacer was under the influence of intoxicating liquor when the two men met again at a wake for the dead in the barangay. Aguilar apparently got a bolo, waited until Gacer was on his way home, and then waylaid him.
