3 men collared over separate rape cases

The Catanduanes police arrested three men in Virac and San Andres last week in connection with separate cases of sexual abuse filed against them before the Regional Trial Court.

First to fall in Oct. 7, 2019 was Abdullah Torzar Nietes, 31, a resident of Sto. Cristo, who was apprehended by Virac police personnel headed by Senior Master Sgt. Ruel Adille at barangay Francia at10:40 A.M.

Nietes’s arrest was covered by a warrant issued by RTC Branch 43 Presiding Judge Lelu P Contreras for the crimes of four counts of rape and one count of attempted rape, with no bail for the rape charges and P120,000 for the second crime.

Five minutes in Calabnigan, a separate team led by PSMD Louie Garcia arrested laborer Alejo Panti Guerrero, 67, who had a standing warrant of arrest issued by the same Court for the crime of three counts of rape and violation of Republic Act 7610. Two counts of rape carried no bail while the other count as well as the child abuse charge has P200,000 each.

The following day, Oct. 8, in barangay Asgad, elements of the San Andres police led by SSg Oscar Esquierda handcuffed abaca stripper Jerry Geromo Sumalde, 50, in connection with the rape complaint pending before RTC Branch 43 with bail recommended at P72,000.

The arrested persons were informed of their constitutional rights, underwent physical and medical examination, and were placed in custody of the police for booking procedure prior to their turn-over to the court.
