With its driver asleep at the wheel, a pickup truck veered off the road and crashed into a pedestrian and several parked vehicles in Virac last week.

According to the police, Santiago Sy Maglente, 33, temporarily residing at barangay Calatagan Tibang, was traversing the national road on his way from Baras to the capital town at 4 A.M. of Oct. 9, 2019 when he fell asleep and lost control of his white Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 (AOA 4195) along the highway at barangay Ibong Sapa.

The wayward truck first hit pedestrian Jhovie Catan, 26, who was walking at the side of the road, before mowing down a SYM 125 motorcycle owned by Jennifer Bobis, a red Honda TMX 125 motorcycle and black Rusi Venus of Mecko delos Santos, a  yellow Euro tricycle with body number 2119 owned by Mike Jordan Tabios and a black Honda XRM-125 owned by Zaldy Aldea Jr., which were all parked at the side of the road.

Catan sustained multiple physical injuries and was brought to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center (EBMC) while Maglente was arrested by responding officers of the Virac police.
