Virac is overall champion in 2019 Palarong Panlalawigan

Garnering a total of 96 golds, 45 silvers and 44 bronze medals, the Virac delegation emerged champion in the recently concluded Palarong Panlalawigan 2019.

Bagamanoc was first runner-up, with 47 golds, 43 silvers and 40 bronzes, followed by Gigmoto as second runner-up (43-45-23) and Bato as third runner-up (34-49-47).

Rounding out the other seven participating towns in the provincial meet are: San Andres (31-40-35), Pandan (26-14-30), San Miguel (21-36-18), Baras (19-14-15), Viga (11-13-11), Panganiban (10-6-8), and Caramoran (8-17-16).

The athletes from the capital town dominated the secondary sports competitions, with 74 golds, 31 silvers and 32 bronzes, far ahead of second runner-up Bagamanoc with 26 golds.

But it faltered in the elementary level, ending only 3rd with a tally of 22 golds, with Gigmoto on top with 28 golds and Bagamanoc taking second with 21 golds.

During the opening program, Congressman Hector Sanchez offered cash prizes of P100,000 to the overall champion, P50,000 to the second placer and P25,000 for the third ranked delegation, along with P50,000 as special prize for the most disciplined delegation.

Acting Gov. Shirley Abundo, represented by PBM Giovanni Balmadrid, also guaranteed P20,000 for each municipality as assistance.

Present during the first day were DepEd schools division superintendent Danilo Despi, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) provincial coordinator Edwin Gianan and the mayors of different towns.
