DepEd holds seminar workshop on addressing mental health issues

The DepEd Catanduanes conducted a 2-day seminar-workshop of Guidance Counselors/Coordinator s and Student Leaders on Addressing Mental Health Issues in the School Setting held at the Amenia Beach Resort on October 29-30 this year.

The activity was to equip teachers in handling mental health issues in the schools, and was attended by 80 teachers, guidance counselors and student leaders in the division of Catanduanes.

In his message to the participants, Schools Division Superintendent Danilo E. Despi enthused that teachers should “always spread positivity and wear a smile” in delivering learning to the young.

The speakers of the seminar-workshop were Dr. Kristine Gimena Santelices – Mental Health in Context: Suicidal/ Psychological Assessment of Mental Health, and IRR on Mental Health; Virgilio Molina – Emotional Quotient; Korina Carla A. Basco – Stress Management;

Eleonor G. Osido – Mental Health First Aid and Why Should Well-Being Taught in Schools; and, Ma. Lourdes M. Sorra – Action Plan: Intervention on Addressing Mental Health Issues in Schools.

The activity was facilitated by Frankie Turalde, EPS, EPP and Rosario V. Vigem, PDO.
