Robbery mars All Saints’ Day

Except for two robbery incidents, the celebration of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in the province of Catanduanes and in the Bicol was generally peaceful, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported last Sunday.

In Virac at 9:35 P.M. of Nov. 1, 2019, Emerose Emerenciana Gianan, 40, a self-employed resident of Calatagan, reported to the police that her house was broken into by unidentified suspects who destroyed the window grills.

The robbers escaped with their loot – a Lenovo laptop, more or less P25,000 cash and assorted jewelry amounting to P200,000.

In another incident, two persons were arrested in Caramoran town after the police caught them in possession of undocumented lumber and an unregistered chainsaw.

Around 5:30 PM of Nov. 1, joint elements of the Caramoran police station led by PSSg Ryan Bien, Pat. Driffin Dominguez of the Catanduanes Police Intelligence Branch (CATPIB) and operatives of Sabloyon detachment of the 1st Police Mobile Force Company were conducting monitoring against all forms of illegal activities when they chanced upon the suspects.

They were identified as Rolando Eustaquio, 54, a tricycle driver from Dariao, and Senando de Lumen, 55, an abaca stripper from Tubli.

Confiscated from the suspects were 46 flitches of “tangid” lumber and 22 flitches of “tabgon” lumber in assorted sizes, with an estimated volume of 260 board feet and estimated market value of P5,213.

Cases for violation of PD 705 (Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines) and RA 9175 (Chainsaw Act of 2002) are being prepared against the suspects.

In Cahan, Bagamanoc last Nov. 1, joint elements of the town police led by PSSG John Vargas and the 2nd PMFC led by PSSG Marlon Matienzo, intercepted a minor in the act of transporting 16 pieces of undocumented red lauan lumbers on board a motorcycle.

A few meters away, the operatives also recovered 36 pieces of red lauan lumber along the road, with a total volume of 171 board feet and estimated market value of P6,840.

Over the two-day period from Nov. 1 to 2, the Bicol regional police office recorded the following incidents involving eight (8) focus crimes: Murder, 2 ; Frustrated Parricide, 1; Homicide, 2;  Physical Injury, 4; Rape, 0; Robbery, 3; Theft, 4; Carnapping, 0; and, Motornapping, 0.

In enforcing the law, the police arrested three persons for illegal drugs, one for illegal gambling, three for illegal fishing, none for firearms, none for illegal mining, three for illegal logging, and nine wanted by the Courts.

In Internal Security Operations, the Bicol PNP said the Army initiated an armed encounter in Claveria, Masbate while the police reported a case of indiscriminate firing in Uson, Masbate along with three incidents of sightings of armed men.

Overall, the various police units deployed 2,509 personnel during Undas 2019, broken down as follows:

Albay, 573; Camarines Norte, 198; Camarines Sur, 694; Catanduanes, 497; Masbate, 111; Sorsogon, 106; Naga, 357; and the regional office, 83.

Six vehicular accidents were reported in Albay, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur while the combined security operations in cemeteries led to the confiscation of 12 bladed weapons and 134 alcoholic drinks.
