The month-long celebration of the 119th Philippine Civil Service anniversary kicked off last Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, following the finalization of the local calendar of activities by the Catanduanes Civil Service Commission (CSC) field office and provincial department heads recently.
The first day began with a Thanksgiving Mass, sponsored by the Provincial Budget and Management Office (PBMO), at Immaculate Conception Cathedral at 6 A.M, followed followed by the 7 A.M. walk of all civil servants from the Virac town plaza to the Capitol grounds where a short opening program spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Radyo ng Pilipinas and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
In finalizing the activities, the CSC and capitol officials led by Provincial Administrator Ireneo B. Panti, Jr. made some amendments were made on the mandated set of activities to be undertaken at the national, regional and agency levels pursuant toCSC Memo Circular No. 7 Series 2019.
Involving community service and learning and development, the added activities were: (1) Health and Wellness – spearheaded by the staff of Eastern Bicol Medical Center (EBMC) and Catanduanes Medical Society, this one-day medical check-up will cater all regular government workers and Local Government Units (LGUs) concerned; (2) Updates on employee’s benefit forum – chaired by the Catanduanes Council of Human Resource Management Practitioners (CCHRMP) and Catanduanes Association of Chiefs of Government Offices (CAGCO) on September 24, 2019, this would serve as the part one of the information caravan for government employees on the benefits they receive; and (3) Records Management Info – part two of the information caravan and related service on September 25-27, 2019.
Moreover, a Zumba activity for-a-cause would be substituted for the “R.A.C.E to Serve Fun Run” as stipulated in the mandated memo order. To be led by the Provincial Health Office, the said activity will set off on September 6, 2019 and will be carried out every Friday at 5pm for the whole month.

A Seminar on Learning and Development – Records Management and “Laro ng Lahi” will be simultaneously held on September 25-27, 2019.
On September 27, 2019, a fellowship night highlighted by the awarding of 2019 Outstanding Government Workers, Retirees and Agencies will conclude the set activities.
Meanwhile, a Coastal Clean Up will be held on October 1, 2019 in areas designated by Catanduanes State University with the help of Special Environment Projects Coordinating Office (SEPCO) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). A scheduled family day is to be celebrated after.
Special treats and discounts from selected establishments will also be offered to government employees for the entirety of the celebration as tokens of appreciation.
Furthermore, a series of committee meetings will then be conducted to polish further details of the event.
With the theme “Civil Service at 119: Upholding Integrity and Building a High-Trust Society”, this year’s activities are meant to remind civil servants to improve their selves and the quality of their service for the benefit of the Filipino people.
The anniversary celebration is also anchored on one of AmBisyon Natin 2040’s key areas for development planning, which is “building a high-trust society.” (Governor’s Office – Information Unit)
